SQ298 from Christchurch to Singapore overflew Sydney not long ago. The difference today? Aircraft was a 777-300 instead of the usual 777-200. The rego of todays aircraft was 9V-SYD. Don't get to see that often here. Shame it was cloudy!!

Hey mate. Just depends on where the sharers are located. At the current time, I can follow them out to about Dubbo (and a bit further West). If there was a sharer in the Blue Mountains, it would be even better.

Sure mate. Airnav Radar Box is just like other ADS-B receivers. Depending on where you are based. Say you were in Sydney. You would get the Singapore Airlines flights out to about Dubbo before you would loose contact with them. Hope this helps.

I think i saw SQ298 fly over today. Didn't have the PP or SBS 1 on so can't be sure but it was heading east to west. It left the most beautiful contrail across the entire sky. Contrail blew away fairly quickly and then the clouds came back :(

What time was it Pat? Yes, it is the best time of year for contrails.

Darren,

I thought it was late morning but just had a look at acars log for yesterday on 16right.com and it shows SQO286 (B744) at 1.12 so i'm guessing it was this.

MAS130 just went over now (B772) with a long contrail as well. I saw a science website recently where you can calculate if it's going to be a good day for contrails or not! I should try and find it again :)

Pat, I too just saw MAS 130 9M-MRA go over! Brilliant contrail. I have some very shaky video of it and some pics. Will upload soon. If you can find that website, that would be awesome!

Darren,

Here's the website for predicting contrails -

http://www.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm ... rails.html

click on the appleman chart. I haven't tried it yet but am keen to know if it actually works.

Thanks for the link Pat. A little bit of playing around to work it out. Seems lower humidity and cooler high altitude temps make for the perfect combo (which is mostly occurring this time of year).
