Hi all,

I thought I would introduce myself and at the same time wish everyone the best for the festive season.
My name is Ron and I live about 3.4 NM from Perth Airport, I have been sharing for a few months now and have recently raised my antenna to about 15 metres and fitted a low noise preamp. My range seems to be over 200NM in most directions above 30,000 ft. I have ordered an Icom IC-R2500 receiver to replace my el-cheapo scanner and hope to set up an audio feed when it arrives.
My main interest is electronics having been trained by DCA in the 60's and have had jobs with both the state and federal governments. I currently work with an R&D company working on explosives detection for airport security.
I play with my SBS-1 and try to fly model aircraft and helicopters when the wind in Perth permits in my spare time.
I look forward to contacting you all through the group.
Regards,
Ron. :D

Hello Ron. Good to have you here. Welcome!!! Enjoy the Perth feed very much! An audio would be excellent too when you get around to it. I too fly models, although electric. Looking forward to your posts on these forums. Happy New Year!

Hi Darren,

Electric is the only way... have just come back from flying. I'm setup to feed audio, but need the appropriate software, I have offered my feed to Live ATC net but it wouldn't accept my application, Is there an Australian alternative.
Regards,

Ron.

Ron, you need Windows Media Encoder. I can run you through it if you like and then also provide a link to it here and on my web page.

Hi Darren,

I have downloaded WME and installed it , not to sure on the Port setup and I presume I will need to setup my ADSL router to allow that port .
In other words can you please talk me through it, thanks. Perhaps we could move this into the help forum.

Ron.

Hi Darren,

Sorry to here about the family illness, I hope they get well soon.
When you manage to get some time, would you be able to give me some info on satellite ATC monitoring. I have ordered a couple of PLL LNBs and have a 2.7M Ku dish doing nothing at the moment. I listened years ago, but with the changes in satellites to the new series I have not done much playing. Mainly interested in which atc channels are which of the 2 satellites, thanks.

Ron.

Ron, our member Mark Fahey (mfahey) is into the satellite atc and he is a tree of information when it comes to this topic. He has stacks of info on his web page http://www.satdirectory.com/

Hope this is some sort of help mate. I will get back to you re configuring Windows Media Encoder. Are you Cable or ADSL? I suggest you get something called no ip http://www.no-ip.com/

and run that while streaming your feed as if your ip address changes, it will not affect your broadcast.

Thanks Darren, I'll chase up the software as I'm on ADSL and will need it.
I went to the site you mentioned, a couple of days ago, but it seems out of date. The spreadsheet is no longer available aa it refers to the old Optus satellites.

Regards,

Ron.

Ron, send a PM to Mark. He will be more than happy to help :D Now, if you want a quick way of streaming with Windows Media Encoder (I will do a proper tutorial shortly) just open Windows Media Encoder.
1) Select 'Broadcast a Live Event' then ok
2) Select Audio and leave it as 'default audio device'
3) Select 'Pull from the Encoder' then next
4) Port I have set in the next box is 8080-You can use whatever you like
Now copy the URL for internet connections by right clicking and copying. You can paste it up here later so we can listen to your feed. Click next.

5) For bitrate voice quality will be fine (19kbps) click next
6) Don't worry about archiving in the next screen just click next
7) Name the feed what you like in the next fields then click next
8) In the next screen tick 'Begin Broadcasting when I click finish' then click finish

Now you should be on the air. Make sure you have line in selected and have the scanner volume about 1/4 of the way up and volume of line in about the 4th line in your mixer controls. Provide us with the URL once it is up and I will have a listen.

Hi Darren,

You didn't mention NO-IP setup, I registered a user name etc , I'm a bit confused about the URL, how does that tie in with NO-ip?

Regards,

Ron.

Ron, the no ip username etc will be the link you use for your feeds with the port number you have nominated. PM me and leave me your number if you like and I will call you or you can call me. Whatever you prefer and I will run through it with you. :D
